The "Li-Ron" Choir, conducted by Ronit Shapira, started out as the choir of Gordon School in Herzliya. Today it is Herzliya's representative choir, managed as a public non-profit organization. The choir, in its capacity of a "Centre for the Art of Choral Singing", provides workshops of "uncovering the chorister's latent voice", vocal training, communicating the fundamentals of music, and for integrating movement and acting into choral singing.
The choir is made up of three groups:
Li-Ron Children choir, consisting of children aged 7-11 years;
Li-Ron Youth Choir in which singers between the ages of 12 - 18 participate;
Li-Ron vocal ensemble, of experienced singers up to the age of 40.
Since 1991 the choir has participated in international competitions and was awarded Gold Medals and first prizes:
Wales, UK (1991); Budapest, Hungary (1995); Netanya, Israel (1996); Giessen, Germany (1997); Salsomaggiore Terme, Italy (1998); Garda, Italy (2000); Tolosa, Spain (2001); Bremen, Germany (2004, World choir games); Xiamen, China (2006, World choir games); Graz, Austria (2008, Olympic Championship at the World choir games); Bratislava, Slovakia (2009); Wernigerode, Germany (2011).
Discography includes the Schindler's List original soundtrack album (1994) for which it recorded a folk Yiddish song; A Prayer for Peace (1996) in memory of Israeli prime minister Yitzhak Rabin; Smoke and Ashes (1998) featuring Ladino songs; Berale Come Out (2000); The Little Prince (2003); Wind and Sand (2006) and various albums featuring the choir's expanding repertoire from the years of 1996, 2002, 2006 and 2010.
Ronit Shapira, who established the "Li-Ron" Choir, serves as its conductor and musical director. She is a graduate of the Music Teachers College and the Music Academy of Tel Aviv University, runs workshops with the title "Uncovering the Voice", and is an expert in the methodology of music education and choir conducting. Mrs. Shapira won the title "outstanding conductor" in Salsomaggiore, Italy and the Education Award in the city of Herzliya
